one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, in no small part because he has his priorities straight! i know anyone who has read the hobbit or lotr has likely developed their own mental image of this little hero, though i hope my take pleases at least a bit!

mr.bilbo baggins of bag end by ~thejeffster

This sepia-toned airbrushed painting of Bilbo Baggins simply couldn't be better. From the character - shown in an off-kilter combination of formal portrait posing with a casually cheeky grin - to the warm sepia tones, from the soft storybook lighting to the detail of Sting hanging on the wall, it feels right in every way. Wonderful art! I love it so much. There is a real Tookishness about him. So Tookish and regal I almost imagine him as Paladin, Thain of the Shire with those fair features. :)

As much as I love the films, it sure is nice to see a portrayal of Bilbo that isn't based off of Ian Holm--and what a great one at that! The colors are rich and beautiful, and the level of detail--especially the small things, like Sting mounted on the wall and the little tray of sweets--is enviable.

It's certainly been a while since this was made, but it doesn't make this piece any less refreshing.
